On December 12th, the Big Sandy Rancheria community celebrated the groundbreaking of a 12-unit affordable housing project, funded by $4.5 million from California’s Homekey Tribal NOFA program. This project addresses critical housing needs for the Big Sandy Band of Western Mono Indians and represents a significant step forward in improving housing equity on tribal lands.
Mogavero Architects, with a long history of successful projects alongside Self-Help Enterprises, is honored to design this development. The project reflects the community’s cultural values and priorities, ensuring a sustainable and culturally aligned approach to meeting housing demands.
As one of the first projects funded under the Homekey Tribal NOFA program, this initiative demonstrates the power of collaboration between tribal governments, state agencies, and design partners. It serves as a model for future affordable housing solutions on tribal lands across California.
